Prelude to a Road Road Trip

Today the snow stuck to the ground for the first time this year and since the last time I wrote I've received my Masters degree! A lot more has happened in our lives that I've had no time until the end of December when I was literally shaking with excitement and exhaustion.

The holidays were jam packed with love and family and our return home included New Years spent  celebrating with good friends. Our journey out west should have started today, but being under the weather from all this good cheer and relaxation has me moving sloth-like through the world.

For the next two weeks I'll be documenting our road trip from southern Ohio to Vancouver, BC where we will be staying for the next 5 months.

Peter and I will be spending lots of time in the car and to start things off we will be listening to George R.R. Martin's book Game of Thrones on tape. I've heard lots of good word surrounding this book and I'm excited to listen to this before I start watching the t.v. show.

Our next selection of road companions are two books from Jane and Michael Stern about food to find in many locations around the U.S. On Sundays Peter and I stop everything to curl up and listen to NPR's Splendid Table where we were first introduced to the Stern couple. We've hear a lot about the locations in these books so we snatched them up as quick as we could. I've already marked a few locations in 500 Things to Eat Before it's too Late but I have a feeling we'll be making  in-the-moment decisions. The second book is the revised version of Road Food. We've passed these books around to friends and so far there has been some approval over the locations.

For my own personal reading stash includes three books. The Hobbit was a holiday selection which I am 3/4 of the way through. Think Like A Director by Michael Bloom is a book that's been required reading  a few times in my educational career. It's been two years since I've read it last and I thought I would give myself a refresher before I re-enter the working world. The last book is Story by Robert McKee. This is the only one in the bunch that I will be reading for the first time. Peter read it this summer and strongly suggested that I give it a try since I plan to get some writing done over the next few months.

We'll be headed to New Orleans for the first stage of our trip and since we are attempting to avoid any snow related stalls in the trip we're heading south first.

Stay tuned to more blogs as the trip continues. And remember, adventure is out there!
