Road Trip Day 2- Belly Full of Louisiana

We got going early this morning so that we could walk around New Orleans for a few hours. We didn't know what to expect in terms of getting around the city so we decided to play it safe. We checked out of our Alabama hotel, jumped in the car and were off to Louisiana. Sadly, we left Peter's large stash of insulin in the fridge in our hotel room. Add one frantic call to the hotel later and we'll see his meds when we get to Austin Texas! (Thanks Motel 6!)

A post Motel 6 coffee face. Make of it what you will.
The drive was easy and the weather really started to heat up. A little mist in the distance.

 Monsieur Jamieson at the wheel!

On the GPS it looked like we were driving in water. We were mesmerized by this highways.

The drive into the city was extremely easy, we found great parking and headed strait to Cafe du Mond!

I've seen this place on countless television shows that have forced me to dream of having a beignet one day. Today was that day! We grabbed a table with a street view and waited for our waitress to attend to my sweet-tooth desires.

Peter was a bit skeptical at first.

The beignet is covered in powdered sugar. It gets on your fingers, on your nose, and on the floor.

Dreams do come true! What a wonderful experience.

The weather was wonderful! It was super hot compared to what we were used to but there was a constant light breeze that kept everything feeling lovely. We decided to take advantage of the the sun and wandered around the french quarter and meandered onto Bourbon street.

Because I chose Cafe du Mond Peter got to pick lunch. We decided on Gumbo Shop, a place that was not in either of our books but that promised creole cuisine so we were in.

I decided on the chicken and sausage gumbo while Peter got the seafood. Peter has decided he'll have a rating of 3: Bad, Good, and Great. He rated Gumbo Shop "Good." I'd give it a 6. It wasn't bad but I was expecting a lot.

After lunch we toured a little more of the city and then got back on the road.

Three hours later we arrived in Lafayette where we settled down for even more Louisiana eating at Prejean's.

I wasn't anywhere close to hungrytown but that didn't really stop us. We ordered the fried sampler that included frogs legs, alligator, mushrooms, crawfish, shrimp, and boudin balls. It was incredible and frogs legs taste like chicken.

I ordered the dark andouille gumbo laced with smoked duck. I tapped out after this one. Add a fire, bearskin rug, and a ski lodge and this dish would be a perfect fit.

Peter decided on the crab and corn bisque. I fought him for more tastes. So sweet. So crabby. So delicious.

After dinner we searched for a motel with a gym! Tonight will be a night of relaxation with reading, gyming, and movie watching. Tomorrow it is off to Austin, TX to visit my theatre pal Kevin.

Happy trails and sweet dreams!

Lexi
